SUBJECT:	A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL STEPS NECESSARY TO PROVIDE GENDER-NEUTRAL SIGNAGE ON ALL SINGLE-USER RESTROOMS LOCATED IN CITY-OWNED BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES.

RECOMMENDATION

Pursuant to the request of Commissioner Michael Góngora, the above-referenced Resolution is submitted for consideration by the Mayor and City Commission at the June 6, 2018 City Commission meeting.

The proposal of gender-neutral single-user restrooms was initially discussed and recommended by the City's LGBTQ Committee at its May 5, 2018 meeting. This proposal has the potential to fundamentally transform the way that we think about gender equality and will qualify as bonus criteria in support of the City's maintenance of its perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Municipal Equality Index.
