Please place a referral to the Neighborhood/Community Affairs Committee and to the Transportation, Parking and Bicycle-Pedestrian Facilities Committee to consider the implementation of a pedestrian scramble intersection in Miami Beach.
A pedestrian scramble is a type of traffic signal movement that temporarily stops all vehicular traffic, thereby allowing pedestrians to cross an intersection in every direction, including diagonally, at the same time. Pedestrian scrambles increase safety as scrambles allows pedestrians to cross the street without having to worry about what motorists are doing and allowing pedestrians to cross diagonally instead of standing through two different traffic cycles to get to a destination. Pedestrian scrambles have been implemented worldwide, including in Australia, Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. In the United States, pedestrian scrambles are being utilized in Beverly Hills, Boston, Chicago, Denver, El Paso, Kansas City, New Haven, Los Angeles, New York City, Pittsburgh, Reno, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington D.C.
