SUBJECT:

A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO ACCEPT A DONATION FROM THE CLEVELANDER HOTEL FOR A CITY CO-HOSTED RECEPTION FOR 2018 MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND.

RECOMMENDATION

Accept the Resolution.

ANALYSIS

For the past year, the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Panel on Memorial Day Weekend has been meeting to explore ways in which to enhance both the visitor and resident experience during the holiday weekend.

 

One central idea to emerge from the Panel was to provide cultural programming to welcome guests and celebrate the service men and women who have so generously given to our country.

 

As such, a diverse array of low-impact programming has been put together for the weekend -- in addition to the larger scale Air & Sea Show activity -- including a VIP Welcome Reception on Friday, May 25, 2018 to kick-off the weekend.

 

The Clevelander Hotel has very generously stepped forward to host the VIP Welcome Reception, donating the venue, open bar, lite bites, and music for the event. The total value of the donation is $8,305.52.

 

The City will cover the gratuity for the servers at the event, not to exceed $500.

CONCLUSION

Administrations recommends that the Commission accept the donation and approve the Resolution.
