Please place a referral to the Sustainability and Resiliency Committee on the May 16, 2018 Commission Agenda, to discuss the strong methane odor emanating from storm drains when the pumps are operating, and the impact this is having to surrounding areas both aesthetically and to the underground structural foundation of Miami Beach.
As described in an email I received from Ms. Jennifer Caccamo, a resident of Miami Beach, this odor is “gigantic and pervasive,” and it occurs whenever the pumps are operating, and not only when it rains.
At the Sustainability and Resiliency Committee meeting, I would like to receive a report detailing:
1. What is causing this pervasive smell?
2. What can be done to rectify this situation?
3. What impact are the pumps having on the subterranean mangrove foundations of Miami Beach?
I also would like to discuss the feasibility of utilizing natural drainage systems as an alternative to pumps.
Attached for your review is a copy Ms. Caccamo’s email.
