At the April 26, 2017 Commission Meeting, the Mayor and Commission approved amending the film and print production guidelines to support a more film-friendly landscape for the industry on a local level. In addition, the Commission approved through the budget process a $100,000 cash incentive fund to be used to support local film and print productions, in light of the cash incentive moonlighting from the State funding stream.
The Production Industry Council (PIC) has spent the last several months developing and refining the attached guidelines (Exhibit A) and criteria for the incentive program. Using other local and national incentive programs as a guide, and in partnership with Miami-Dade County, the proposed criteria and guidelines represent industry-wide best practices and are designed to have an impactful imprint on enhancing and supporting local film and print work in our community.
At the January 12, 2018 PIC board meeting, the members voted unanimously to approve the Film Incentive Guidelines as proposed. These guidelines are to be used when distributing the allocated funds to qualified applicants as a grant, with selection and auditing to be overseen by the PIC board.
The Film Incentive Guidelines were also included in a Letter to Commission (025-2018) on January 18, 2018. Both the guidelines and LTC are attached herein.
