| | | | | | | | RECOMMENDATION
| Pursuant to the request of Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez, please add to the December 13, 2017 Commission agenda a referral of a discussion item to the Neighborhood/Community Affairs Committee regarding a potential anti-sexual harassment Ordinance. The proposed Ordinance is based upon legislation adopted by the City of Chicago and would include:
a) a requirement that hotels provide hotel employees with a panic button or notification device to summon help if the employee reasonably believes that an on-going crime, sexual harassment, sexual assault, or other emergency is occurring in the employee’s presence; and
b) a requirement that hotels develop, maintain, and comply with a written sexual harassment policy to protect employees against sexual assault or sexual harassment by guests; and
c) an anti-retaliation provision relative to employees’ reasonable use of the panic button or notification device; the reporting, disclosing or testifying about violations of the Ordinance; or the employee otherwise availing him or herself of the requirements of the Ordinance.
A copy of the Ordinance adopted by the City of Chicago is attached hereto.
