The Little Lighthouse Foundation, a 501(C)3 not-for-profit organization, which works to assist children and families in South Florida who struggle with educational, financial, and medical hardships, will hold its eighth Annual Nightmare on the Beach Halloween fundraiser event from Friday, October 27, 2017 at 9:00 pm to Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2:00 am, in the Lummus Park spoil area between 11th and 12th Streets, with ticket prices ranging from $175 per person to $5,000 per table. The event will bring 1,200 ticketed guests to Miami Beach to enjoy cocktails, delicious bites, and live entertainment, with Ocean Drive as a backdrop. This will be the fourth year the event has taken place in Lummus Park, though the first in this section of Lummus Park, after the event relocated from the volleyball area between 7th and 9th Streets.
The event has been warmly embraced by the Ocean Drive businesses, many of which participate in the event’s added children’s costume parade, which takes place on Saturday, October 28, 2017, from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm in Lummus Park. Beneficiaries of this fundraiser event include many local charities and organizations, such as the Miami Beach Police Athletic League, the Miami Beach Boys and Girls Club, the Chapman Partnership for the Homeless, the Overtown Youth Center, the Miami Children’s Initiative, and others. The Nightmare on the Beach event is the Little Lighthouse Foundation’s second largest annual fundraiser.
For the 2017 event, the Little Lighthouse Foundation requested and has thus far received fee waivers as allowed by the City Manager for not-for-profit applicants under the codified Special Events Requirements and Guidelines for the following:
1. Special event permit fee: $250
2. Application fee: $250
3. Vehicle access pass fees: $1,500
--------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL: $2,000
In addition, the Little Lighthouse House Foundation is seeking a waiver of the special event square footage fee and the special event Lummus Park user fee, both required for the ticketed fund raiser event, and both of which require Commission approval. Based on the event’s provided site plan and the event’s prior year’s permit, the requested waiver amounts are as follows:
1. Square Footage Fee $8,580.00
2. Lummus Park User Fee $1,926.87
-------------------------------------------------------------
TOTAL: $10,506.87
The Lummus Park User Fee is an estimate and is based on a percentage of City services utilized (Police, Fire, Sanitation, etc.). As this amount cannot be calculated in advance, the total suggested waiver should not exceed $11,000.00. The City Commission recently waived these fees for not-for-profit applicants Miami Beach Pride and the H2Os Foundation.
