| | SUBJECT: | A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING A $25,000 DONATION FROM FRIENDS OF MIAMI ANIMAL FOUNDATION, INC. TO BE UTILIZED BY THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEFRAYING THE LEASING COSTS OF A TRAILER FROM NEW ACTION MOBILE INDUSTRIES, LLC FOR USE BY SOBE CATS SPAY & NEUTER, INC. TO TRAP, SPAY/NEUTER, AND RELEASE COMMUNITY CATS. |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS
| The City of Miami Beach holds a management partnership with The Cat Network, Inc., to deliver a comprehensive community cat trap-neuter-return (TNR) program entitled Project CatSnip.
The City’s goal is to develop a program that: is community-wide in scope; effective in humanely reducing the local community cat population by educating the public about the need to sterilize their pets and strays; provide access to low-cost spay/neuter services for stray, homeless and abandoned cats; help members in their efforts to place adoptable cats in loving homes; and advocate non-lethal population control via natural attrition and humane public policy.
SOBE Cats Spay & Neuter, Inc. (“SOBE Cats”) is a charitable 501(c)(3) corporation that assists the City in providing spay and neuter services for community cats one weekend a month. The yearly lease for the trailer that the City used to conduct these surgeries expired on September 30, 2017.
SOBE Cats has signed a new lease for a trailer, from New Action Mobile Industries, LLC, to continue to provide these valuable services.
The City has agreed to pay the sum of $10,000 per year toward the leasing costs incurred by SOBE Cats. In return, Friends of Miami Animal Foundation, Inc. has agreed to donate the sum of $25,000 to the City to be used by the City to defray the annual leasing costs of the trailer.
