ANALYSIS

Each year the City of Miami Beach hosts various events and programs throughout the City.  These events engage and educate the community and offer an opportunity to give back.

The City hosts an annual Hispanic Heritage Festival.  This popular event celebrates Hispanic culture and offers music, dance, rides and more.  This event is open to the general public at no charge.

The City also hosts an annual Winter Wonderland event to celebrate the holidays.  Event includes a tree lighting ceremony, youth dance performances, over 50 tons of snow, visits by Mr. & Mrs. Claus, rides, games and music. Admission to this event is open to the general public at no charge. Carnival rides and refreshments are for sale.

The City also supports the Parks and Recreation Athletic Leagues.  The City has secured a sponsorship for their youth basketball league, youth travel soccer league, and Silver Slugger senior softball league uniforms.

CONCLUSION

Staff worked diligently to identify funding sources to off-set the costs of producing these programs. The Administration recommends the adoption of the attached Resolution authorizing the acceptance of these donations and sponsorships, from Baptist Health South Florida, Inc., and T-Mobile USA, Inc. in the total amount of $26,000, for the 2017 Hispanic Heritage Festival, the 2017 Winter Wonderland Event, and the uniforms for the City’s Parks and Recreation Department’s youth basketball league, youth travel soccer league, as well as the Silver Slugger senior softball league; and, further, authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to make such expenditures and/or reimbursements consistent with the aforestated events and purposes.
