COMMISSION MEMORANDUM |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | | TO: | Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission | | | FROM: | Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez | | | DATE: | September 13, 2017 | | | |
| | SUBJECT: | DISCUSS HOLDING A BEACH CONCERT IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH TO ANNOUNCE TO THE WORLD THAT THE CITY IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS. |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS
| As an aftermath of hurricane Irma, the City’s hospitality industry is suffering, with many hotels and restaurants vacant. The City needs to take action, such as holding a beach concert, to announce to the world that Miami Beach is open for business. Such a concert would generate needed positive press coverage.
Funding for such a concert could be requested from the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB).
If ever the City needed an event to announce that it is open for business, it is now.
