COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:Rafael E. Granado, City Clerk
DATE:October  18, 2017

SUBJECT:A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ELECTING COMMISSIONER JOHN ELIZABETH ALEMÁN, GROUP VI, AS VICE-MAYOR, FOR A TERM COMMENCING ON NOVEMBER 1, 2017 AND TERMINATING ON NOVEMBER 13, 2017, OR IF A RUNOFF ELECTION IS HELD, TERMINATING ON NOVEMBER 28, 2017.

ANALYSIS

The Mayor and City Commission established a policy of rotating the position of Vice-Mayor every four months, and the next Vice-Mayor Group is Group VI.

Typically the term for the next Vice-Mayor would be November 1, 2017 through February 28, 2018, and Commissioner John Elizabeth Alemán is next in the rotation to serve as Vice-Mayor; however, because of the General Election scheduled for November 7, 2017, and City Charter Section 2.04, the term for the next Vice-Mayor will commence November 1, 2017 and terminate on November 13, 2017, or if a Runoff Election is held the term will terminate on November 28, 2017.

A resolution will be placed on the November 13, 2017 Commission Agenda, or if a Runoff Election is held on the November 28, 2017 Commission Agenda, allowing the newly elected City Commission to elect from its membership Commissioner John Elizabeth Alemán as Vice-Mayor, for a term to expire February 28, 2018.
