On April 26, 2017, the City Commission adopted Resolution No.2017-29812 (Exhibit A), authorizing the acceptance of a sponsorship donation from National Association of Realtors and the Miami Association of Realtors in the approximate amount of $5,000 for the purchase of dog agility equipment. The City intends to use the funding to purchase agility equipment for the existing large and small bark parks located in North Shore Open Space Park.
To achieve this purpose, the Parks and Recreation Department will need to match funding towards the purchase of the equipment. As grant recipients, the Department is asked to acknowledge the contribution done by the Miami Association of Realtors to the City of Miami Beach in the form of a sign or plaque.
Miami Beach City Code Section 138-73 entitled, "General advertising signs", states, "No general
advertising sign shall be constructed, erected, used, operated or maintained in the city." The
Administration is seeking a waiver of development requirements from the Planning Board in
order to fulfill this element of the contract, as the purpose of the sign is not to provide
advertisement, but to acknowledge the contribution done by the Miami Association of Realtors to the City of Miami Beach by providing dog agility equipment in an community that is in need of it.
Exhibit B illustrates the 12x12 signage that is being proposed to be installed on the bark park entrance gates.
