SUBJECT:REFERRAL TO THE LAND USE AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE AND THE PLANNING BOARD - ALTERNATIVE PARKING REQUIREMENTS ORDINANCE.

RECOMMENDATION

Refer the proposed Draft Ordinance Amendment to the Land Use and Development Committee and Planning Board for consideration and recommendation.

ANALYSIS

HISTORY

On May 16, 2017, the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Sea Level Rise discussed the attached Ordinance amendment and recommended that the City Commission refer it to the Land Use and Development Committee and Planning Board.  Commissioner Joy Malakoff is the sponsor of the item. 

 

PLANNING ANALYSIS

Currently chapter 130 of the City code requires between 1.5 to 2.0 parking spaces per residential unit as outlined below. The proposed draft ordinance would reduce this requirement, provided tangible forms of alternative transportation, including bicycle facilities, are provided.

CONCLUSION

The Administration recommends that the Mayor and the City Commission refer the attached draft ordinance amendment to the Land Use and Development Committee and Planning Board.
