On April 21, 2017, The Miami Herald published an article entitled “Seagrass keeps dying in Biscayne Bay. Is it getting too sick to recover?” The article discussed how the urban end of Biscayne Bay, which managed to survive decades of causeway and jet skis and dredging, where acres of seagrass grew in water that remained clear despite all the pumping and dumping from its coastal neighbors, is sick. Since 2012, more than half the meadow has died, causing alarm to those who monitor the situation.
The article lists as an unknown factor for some scientist as to cause of the die-off the increased pumping of untreated stormwater from Miami Beach.
