ANALYSIS

Please place on the April 3, 2024 agenda a referral to the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee to discuss the City potentially assuming control and managing the lift station in Sunset Harbour.

The Sunset Harbour North Tower, Sunset Harbour South Tower, Townhomes in Sunset Harbour, and Yacht Club (collectively, the “Properties”) within the Sunset Harbour neighborhood are all serviced by one (1) lift station (“Lift Station”).  The Lift Station, which provides critical waste infrastructure for the Properties, is presently privately owned, operated and maintained by the Property Owners.   However, due to recurring issues surrounding the permitting, operation and maintenance of the Lift Station, it has recently come to my attention that the Properties are interested in the City taking over the management responsibilities for the Lift Station, in exchange for the Properties financially compensating the City for doing so.

Accordingly, I would like to discuss with my colleagues the possibility of the City assuming control of the Lift Station in Sunset Harbour.  As part of the discussion, I would request that the City Administration be prepared at Committee to provide input, along with any recommendations, concerns, and the financial impact to the City of potentially taking on this initiative.
