COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:Commissioner Alex Fernandez
DATE:April  3, 2024

SUBJECT:DISCUSS/TAKE ACTION, POTENTIAL PLAN TO PROVIDE RESIDENTS AND VISITORS WHO PAID $100 FOR PARKING WITH CREDIT FOR THE FUTURE.

RECOMMENDATION

On February 21, 2024, the City Commission approved an Ordinance sponsored by me that amended the high-impact ordinance regarding increasing parking rates to $100 flat rate during peak weekends of the Spring Break. While these measures are very strict, they are necessary to reduce crowds during Spring Break – and must remain in place.

However, once Spring Break is over, our primary objective remains the long-term well-being and enjoyment of our residents and visitors alike, and we must aim to ensure a welcoming environment that encourages visitors to return and enjoy the diverse offerings our City provides, including its restaurants, shopping venues, beaches, and cultural attractions throughout the remainder of the year.

I would like for the City Commission to consider directing the City Administration to develop a plan to provide residents and local visitors who paid $100 for parking during the high impact weekends, with a credit in an amount to be recommended by the City Administration, which could be applied to future parking charges.
