| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS
|
Currently, there is an item pending in the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee to discuss the scheduling of major events and activations in Pride Park, with a focus on balancing commercial activity with residential uses.
In view of upcoming contract/procurement deadlines related to the Convention Center management agreement, and in the event this issue is not addressed at Committee, I would like to discuss with my colleagues the management of Pride Park.
Pride Park is managed by OVG360, the same operator responsible for managing the Miami Beach Convention Center. The upcoming expiration of the management agreement with OVG360 on March 31, 2024 provides the City with the perfect opportunity to remove Pride Park from the scope of the contract with OVG360 (as well as the scope of the new procurement), and instead transition the management and control of Pride Park to the City's Parks Department.
Although both the City and OVG360 use the same landscaping maintenance vendor, I believe placing the management of Pride Park directly under the control of the Parks Department makes more sense, to ensure we structure the management and oversight of this City asset in a manner that reflects our intent to prioritize the recreational uses of the park, for the benefit of our residents.
