Please place a discussion item on the October 18, 2023 City Commission agenda to discuss the deployment of the Police Department’s new Public Safety Specialists (“PSS”) during the high season, including during high impact weekends. 

The City only has approximately 90,000 residents, however, the City swells exponentially during high season and even more so during high impact weekends like Art Basel which necessitates an increased police presence to mitigate traffic impacts and to ensure law and order. To that end, the City Commission previously approved new PSS positions as part of the mid-year budget amendment. 

Accordingly, I would like the Police Department to be prepared to provide the City Commission with pertinent information such as: 1) how many new PSS have been hired; 2) how many PSS will be deployed; and 3) what is plan for high season and high impact weekends like Art Basel, so that my colleagues and I may discuss this matter and address any outstanding issues or concerns.
