SUBJECT:A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE A MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA, FLORIDA, FOR THE PURPOSE OF COORDINATING LAW ENFORCEMENT PLANNING, OPERATIONS AND MUTUAL AID BENEFIT BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH AND THE CITY OF OPA-LOCKA.

BACKGROUND/HISTORY

Pursuant to Chapter 23 of the Florida State Statutes, known as the" Florida Mutual Aid Act', the City of Miami Beach and the City of Opa-Locka have the authority to enter into a Voluntary Cooperation and Operational Assistance Mutual Aid Agreement. The current Mutual Aid Agreement between the City of Miami Beach and the City of Opa-Locka will expire on December 31, 2023.

ANALYSIS

This Resolution would allow both government entities agree to continue their partnership for the purpose of coordinating law enforcement planning, operations, and mutual aid benefit.

CONCLUSION

The Administration therefore requests the Mayor and the City Commission authorize the City Manager and City Clerk to execute a Mutual Aid Agreement with the City of Opa-Locka.
