COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:Commissioner Steven Meiner
DATE:June  28, 2023

SUBJECT:REFERRAL TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY AND NEIGHBORHOOD QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS PRESSURE WASHING IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE CLEANLINESS AND AESTHETICS OF CITY PROPERTY.

ANALYSIS

Please place on the June 28, 2023 agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee to discuss the City’s utilization of pressure washing in order to keep the City’s property and rights-of-way clean and kempt.

The City is a major tourist destination for domestic and international travelers alike as, in addition to the many “day-trippers,” the City hosts approximately 11 million overnight visitors annually.  Much of the City’s allure surrounds its vast beauty, including its art deco architecture, pristine beaches, and its expansive parks and scenic pathways.  However, unclean streets, sidewalks and other City property can have a deleterious effect on the residents’ quality of life, in addition to presenting an outwardly negative impression of the City to its visitors.

Accordingly, as part of this referral, I would request that the Administration be prepared to provide the Committee with information as to its current pressure washing schedule, to include the frequency and location of pressure washing in various areas of the City.  I would also request that the Administration be prepared to address, and provide recommendations, as to how cleanliness in the City may be improved through the use of pressure washing and any other identifiable means.
