COMMISSION MEMORANDUM |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | TO: | Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission | | FROM: | Vice-Mayor Ricky Arriola | | DATE: | June 28, 2023 | | |
| SUBJECT: | REFERRAL TO THE NEXT FINANCE AND ECONOMIC RESILIENCY COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS ESTABLISHING A PRIVATE OR CHARTER SCHOOL IN MIAMI BEACH. |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS
| The city of Miami Beach has an exceptional opportunity to address the growing demand for private school enrollment. Recent articles have highlighted the influx of residents from major cities like New York, Chicago, and other major cities to South Florida who are seeking educational options for their children. To meet this demand and attract more families, I propose establishing a private/charter school within Miami Beach. We can achieve this by incentivizing the development of these schools on our vacant and/or underutilized city-owned land, including but not limited to the West Lots. By offering diverse educational choices, we can enhance our community and provide top-quality education for our children.
I ask the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee to discuss this proposal, as it aligns with our goal of providing outstanding educational opportunities and making Miami Beach an attractive destination for families. |
