COMMISSION MEMORANDUM |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | TO: | Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission | | FROM: | Vice-Mayor Ricky Arriola | | DATE: | June 28, 2023 | | |
| SUBJECT: | REFERRAL TO THE JULY 2023 FINANCE AND ECONOMIC RESILIENCY COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS INOPERATIVE SECURITY CAMERAS IN CITY GARAGES AND BEYOND. |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS
| I am asking the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee to discuss a significant issue concerning our City's public safety infrastructure. Several security cameras in our city garages and potentially other locations throughout the City, have been inoperational for an extended period of time, possibly several years. This is a serious concern that warrants immediate attention. Therefore, I request the City administration to compile a comprehensive report detailing which cameras in which garages and other city locations have been inoperational and for how long.
Additionally, I am deeply concerned about the potential legal implications of this situation. Given these cameras' prolonged and known malfunction, I am asking our City attorney to assess the City's exposure regarding premises liability. I am also troubled by the lengthy procurement process for such vital public safety equipment. We must address this issue promptly to ensure the safety and security of our citizens. I look forward to a comprehensive report on this matter at our next Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee meeting. |
