At the Sustainability & Resiliency Commission Committee meeting in February, we had a discussion regarding raising street levels higher than our homes. While the City may continue with infrastructure work to switch from gravity drains to pump station stormwater management, there is no reason to raise streets until they begin to flood, creating unnecessary panic and costs for residents.
Instead, the City should follow the Lower North Bay Road model, which completed infrastructure work to mitigate flooding without raising streets higher that the surrounding homes.
A policy needs to be set where the City completes the infrastructure work and installs pumps for the future, but does not significantly raise the streets until it is necessary.
