Pursuant to the request of Commissioner Alex Fernandez the above-referenced Resolution is submitted for consideration by the Mayor and City Commission at the February 1, 2023 City Commission Meeting.
The Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach (“the City”) recognizes that the core mission of the City is to protect the peace, tranquility, and quality of life of our City’s residents and visitors. Homeless individuals' illegal and noisesome conduct is one of the most widely reported threats to the quality of life of our City’s residents and visitors.
Miami-Dade County currently operates a homeless hotline (1-877-994-4357) for the use of the County’s residents and visitors to obtain services for homeless individuals. Still, that number is not easy to remember, does not provide texting capability, and is not designed to receive complaints from residents and visitors. Many of our City’s residents and visitors prefer to communicate with the City via text rather than voice communication. The Administration is directed to explore the creation and development of an easy-to-remember telephone number with texting capabilities for residents and visitors to report expeditiously, via voice or text, quality-of-life issues caused by the activities of homeless individuals.
