Please place on the February 1, 2023 agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee to discuss the creation of an Employee Incentive Program that would reward employees who identify and report issues related to neighborhood safety, cleanliness, landscaping, lighting and other matters relevant to neighborhood quality of life.
Each day, hundreds of City employees drive to and from work, walk the City during their lunch breaks, or perform job functions at various locations throughout the City. Regardless of each employee’s position or job duties, City employees are in a position to observe issues that could be reported to the City for subsequent follow up and action, particularly issues relating to public safety, cleanliness on public rights of way, landscaping, lighting, and related matters that are important to neighborhood quality of life.
From time to time, Human Resources has utilized employee incentive programs or employee suggestion boxes in an effort to reward employees who think outside the box and go the extra mile.
I would like for the Committee to consider implementing such a program to proactively identify and report such issues and assist in keeping our City safe, clean and beautiful, for the benefit of our residents and our neighborhood quality of life.
As part of this referral, I would ask for the Administration to make recommendations for how the proposed Employee Incentive Program could be implemented, including the criteria for awards to employees, proposed awards, and the process for reporting of issues that warrant special attention.
