Please place on the February 1, 2023 agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee to discuss the schedule of events taking place at Pride Park and how the City could better control the schedule and activate Pride Park for the maximum benefit of City residents.
A number of residents have expressed concerns that the significant load-in and load-out periods for major event activations at Pride Park result in residents losing the benefit of the use of the park for extended periods of time. Although Pride Park was redesigned to allow for a flexible lawn and accommodate events, a significant purpose of the Park is to provide a recreational amenity to area residents year-round.
In an effort to ensure an appropriate balance between events and the use of the Park by the City’s residents, I would like for the Committee to consider potential resident oriented activations, review the annual schedule of events and determine whether any policy direction should be provided, such as a cap on the total number of days each year that Pride Park may be used for events. As the City’s multi-year contract for Pride Park’s usage expires at the end of 2023, I would also like for the Committee to review whether in the future, there should be a maximum number of consecutive days that the Park may be utilized by any single event (including load-in and load-out).
