COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:Commissioner David Richardson
DATE:February  1, 2023

SUBJECT:DISCUSSION, WITH POSSIBLE ACTION, ON THE INSTALLATION OF A POP-UP EXHIBIT IN LUMMUS PARK TO COMMEMORATE WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH IN MARCH.

ANALYSIS

In 2020 the Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL) asked Lynette Long, the current Chair of the Miami Beach Commission for Women, to curate a pop-up exhibit in Lummus Park for the 100-year anniversary of women’s suffrage.  Ten famous women were selected to highlight. Though not content heavy, the exhibit still made the point that women have contributed to our history.

People stopped, read the “mini-billboards" and took pictures with them to share on social media.

It is my understanding that MDPL still has the frames and has confirmed that the Art Deco Museum will cover the cost of reprinting the images. I would like the City Administration to waive the permit costs and to work with Lynette Long and MDPL to find suitable locations in Lummus Park for a pop-up exhibit from March 1 – 31, 2023.

I have attached the images for consideration.
