Please place on the February 1, 2023 City Commission agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Qualify of Life Committee (PSNQLC) for a discussion and recommendation of a fitting tribute to Mark Samuelian and his legacy of public service. 

Over the last several months, I have been touched by the many inquiries I have received regarding whether the City intended to commemorate Mark Samuelian’s passing with a naming of a public area or facility.  As an example, attached is one thoughtful proposal from a City resident, for naming the West Avenue Pedestrian Bridge in honor of Mark.

One of the many values that I share with Mark is that the process we use to arrive at decisions --  with community input and engagement -- is just as important as the decisions themselves.  For this reason, although this is a topic that is very personal for me, my preference is to refer this to the Committee without any specific naming in mind, in order to permit the public to provide feedback to my colleagues as they consider this issue further at Committee.
