COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez
DATE:February  1, 2023

SUBJECT:DISCUSS/TAKE ACTION ABOUT NOTIFYING THE WEST AVENUE RESIDENTS REGARDING THE UPCOMING WEST AVE NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT AND THE PARKING RESTRICTIONS.

BACKGROUND/HISTORY

When the West Avenue project begins, the neighborhood is set to lose more than 150 parking spots. What are we doing to replace these spots, and what effect is this going to have on the residents and commercial occupants of this area?

Construction should not commence until we fix this issue. Also, why are we removing so much street parking? Is this the will of the commission? I love driving around and popping in and out of places on Miami Beach, and all of these directives are going to change the way we live in Miami Beach. Is this what we want? Who gave these directives?

I would like to have a robust discussion with my colleagues and see how they feel about street versus garage parking.
