COMMISSION MEMORANDUM |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | TO: | Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission | | FROM: | Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez | | DATE: | February 1, 2023 | | |
| SUBJECT: | DISCUSS/TAKE ACTION, OFF-DUTY POLICE REQUIREMENTS AT ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE ESTABLISHMENTS. |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS
| I would like for the City Commission to review the current off-duty police requirements for alcoholic beverage establishments. Right now, identifying off-duty police to cover shifts is challenging for establishments, and expensive. I want to ensure that the City requires no more than 1 off-duty police officer per establishments, and that adjacent abutting establishments can continue to share a single off-duty officer (and the expense thereof). I also would like for the City Commission to consider how we could open up the process to allow business owners to hire off-duty officers from any municipality. As part of this item, I would request for the Police Department to be prepared to advise as to this issue. |
