SUBJECT:DISCUSSION REGARDING THE MAXIMUM DISTANCE SEPARATION FOR VALET STORAGE FROM THE VALET POINT OF SERVICE LOCATION

HISTORY:

Ordinance 2015-3963 established consolidation of multiple valet parking ramps to one (1) parking valet ramp within a street block (excluding Ocean Drive).  It also required a valet operational plan which must include a traffic operations analysis and requires vehicle storage locations at a distance of no more than 2,500 feet from the valet ramp.

ANALYSIS

This ordinance addresses valet operations with ramps on public right of way.  The storage distance requirement does not apply to private ramping.  Consequently, a hotel with a private ramp can choose valet vehicle storage location without a distance limit requirement.

The distance requirement was established to minimize delays at a ramp on public property and also helps with traffic conditions, given that there is only one (1) operator per block.  However, any delay of valet vehicles in private ramps is a concern of the private business.

CONCLUSION:

This information is provided to facilitate the discussion of the maximum distance between valet ramping and vehicle storage.
