COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:Commissioner Steven Meiner and Co-sponsored by Commissioner Samuelian
DATE:April  6, 2022

SUBJECT:REFERRAL TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY AND NEIGHBORHOOD QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS THE POTENTIAL UTILIZATION OF INNOVATIVE CAMERA TECHNOLOGY TO ADDRESS VEHICULAR NOISE IN THE CITY.

ANALYSIS

Please place on the April 6, 2022 agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Quality of Life Committee to discuss the viability of utilizing camera technology to address excessive vehicular noise in the city including, but not limited to, noise emanating from vehicle mufflers and exhausts, as similar innovative, anti-noise camera technology has been implemented in cities such as London, New York, and Paris.

As part of the referral, I would request that the City Administration be prepared to discuss at the committee meeting the feasibility of implementing a noise camera pilot program in the city, including any costs, available funding sources, next steps, and other issues that need to be addressed prior to any potential approval and implementation.
