COMMISSION MEMORANDUM |

| | | | | | | | TO: | Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission | | FROM: | Vice-Mayor Kristen Rosen Gonzalez | | DATE: | April 6, 2022 | | |
| SUBJECT: | REFERRAL TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY AND NEIGHBORHOOD QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE ABOUT PURCHASING NEW AND MORE MODERN TRASH RECEPTACLES. |

| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND/HISTORY
| On a recent trip to Paris, I noticed these simple garbage cans across the City—actually, they have no cans, just a bag. They can be different types of designs, but the idea is the same—you eliminate the can, only have the bag, and the entire receptacle becomes cleaner, easier to maintain/change, and more sanitary. I would like to explore this idea with a citywide pilot program for Euro-style trashcans. I think that with the right Art Deco design, they would improve the aesthetics of our current trashcans (some of which look like chain-link fences), improve the facility of maintaining and changing them, and eliminate the need to clean the can. This is a win-win for everyone, so let’s talk “trash” at Neighborhoods. |
