COMMISSION MEMORANDUM |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | TO: | Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission | | FROM: | Commissioner Mark Samuelian | | DATE: | April 6, 2022 | | |
| SUBJECT: | DISCUSS AND TAKE ACTION ON THE SLOW STREET PROGRAM. |
| | | |
| | | | | | | | RECOMMENDATION
| Miami Beach's award-winning Slow Streets program was introduced as a tool to transform residential streets with low traffic volumes into alternate mobility boulevards and shared streets to increase pedestrian and bicycle activity. Slow Streets have been used in other cities affected by the pandemic throughout the United States; the concept consists of taking existing streets and encouraging more pedestrians and bikes to share the road. This pilot program was successful and received positive responses and constructive feedback from the community.
This item seeks to understand the process by which this budgeted program was reoriented, including removing the planters and signage without immediate replacements, etc. Furthermore, we should discuss what steps the City Administration will implement to meet the goals of Slow Streets 2.0 in the Flamingo Park neighborhood. |
