TO:Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:Alina T. Hudak, City Manager
DATE:April  6, 2022

SUBJECT:A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH TO ACCEPT A DONATION FROM LA TEQERS, LLC, OF TWO (2) TEQBALL TABLES, IN THE ESTIMATED TOTAL VALUE OF $7,000.00, TO BE PLACED IN LUMMUS PARK FOR COMMUNITY USE.

RECOMMENDATION

Accept approving and authorizing the City of Miami Beach to accept a donation from LA Teqers LLC of two (2) Teqball tables, in the estimated total amount of $7,000.00, to be placed in Lummus Park for the community to utilize.

BACKGROUND/HISTORY

LA Teqers LLC has reached out to Parks and Recreation Department with the intention of donating two (2) Teqball tables to be placed in Lummus Park, in the spoil area east of the coral wall near 8th Street, for the community to utilize. The estimated value of these tables is $7,000.

ANALYSIS

Teqball is a ball sport that is played on a specially-curved table, combining elements of soccer and table tennis. Back and forth, the players hit a soccer ball with any part of the body except arms and hands. Teqball can be played between two players as a singles game, or between four players as a doubles game. The sport follows a points-based scoring format and can be played on various surfaces, indoors or outdoors.

Currently, LA Teqers LLC provides a few tables to Lummus Park on the weekends for the community to use. It has become popular and they would like the City to be proprietary owners of the tables. No sponsorships or advertisements will be on the tables. This also gives the City flexibility to coordinate activations with the Teqball tables. LA Teqers LLC has not provided any other term or conditions for use of the tables. They are relinquishing the tables to the City with no additional caveat.
