As directed at the Commission meeting on September 9, 2020, the Human Resources department began the process of recruiting for the City Attorney position. The attached advertisement was submitted for your review and was posted on September 14, 2021. This was advertised on the City’s website, where there were 540 persons reviewed it. It was also posted on:
• Government Jobs.com
• The Florida Bar
• Florida League of Cities
• The Florida Association of County Attorneys
The advertisement closed on October 1, 2021. We received two applications which meet our minimum qualifications and complied with our request to complete two supplemental documents: Introduction Questionnaire and Personal Disclosure. These two applicants are Rafael Paz, our City’s Acting City Attorney, and Thomas J. Ansbro, who is currently the City Attorney for the City of Dania Beach. The applications and documents were emailed to the Mayor and Commissioners on October 4, 2021 and are attached for your reference.
We also received two other applications from attorneys with state agencies (DCF and FL Agency for Healthcare Administration) that have never been city or county attorneys. Neither completed the Introduction Questionnaire and Personal Disclosure and one submitted a resume without completing the required City Application. In addition, neither met the City’s minimum requirement of 10 years as a senior attorney in a medium to large complex urban organization, preferably in South Florida.
