I ask the Finance and Citywide Projects Committee to discuss implementing a new citywide standard of design and quality for children's playgrounds, play surfaces, shade structures, and outdoor fitness equipment. Previously, the City has purchased cheap plastic play structures to outfit its play spaces. Now that the G.O. Bond has passed, residents expect much more. We must ensure that we construct all outdoor parks with high-quality designs and materials. I also ask the Committee to explore new procurement protocols that would allow for these forward-thinking designs to be purchased responsibly and expeditiously.
