COMMISSION MEMORANDUM

TO:Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Commission
FROM:Vice-Mayor Mark Samuelian
DATE:October  17, 2018

SUBJECT:REFERRAL TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD/COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS POTENTIAL PARKING SOLUTIONS FOR THE COLLINS PARK NEIGHBORHOOD.

RECOMMENDATION

ANALYSIS

The Collins Park neighborhood has lost many parking spaces in large part due to the Collins Park Garage construction and the related closure of the surface parking lots where the garage will reside. In addition, competition with construction workers working on the convention center and other projects has further reduced the availability for both residents and workers who have purchased monthly parking passes.

While some measures have been taken to alleviate matters (such as "Collins Parking On-street Parking Permit" (CPOP)) program which allows all of the 163 parking permit holders from the four (4) municipal parking lots in the area to be honored at any of the 550+ metered (on-street and off-street) parking spaces in the Collins Park neighborhood, workers, residents, and business owners still cite need for parking that is reasonably nearby. Many proposals have been suggested, and each should be discussed at the Neighborhood/Community Affairs Committee.
