ANALYSIS:
On December 13, 2017, the Mayor and City Commission referred a discussion to the Finance and Citywide Projects Committee (the “Committee”), regarding the creation of a City of Miami Beach Office of Inspector General.
Attached for the Committee's review is a revised draft Ordinance creating the Office of Inspector General, as well as a revised draft ballot question and proposed City Charter amendment, both of which incorporate the Committee's comments.
Pursuant to the Committee's direction at its meeting on May 18, 2018, a Resolution will be placed on the July 25, 2018 City Commission meeting agenda, calling for a special election on November 6, 2018, to submit the proposed City Charter amendment to the City’s voters. If the proposed Charter amendment is approved by the City’s voters on November 6, 2018, the attached Ordinance will be presented to the City Commission for its approval.
