DISCUSSION REGARDING THE REQUEST BY THE HISPANIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE FOR FUNDING TO BE PROPERLY ALLOCATED FOR THE RECOMMENDED PROGRAMMING AS PART OF THE BUDGET PROCESS FOR FISCAL YEAR 2017-2018


HISTORY:

At the July 26, 2017 City Commission meeting, a discussion regarding the Hispanic Affairs Committee’s request to enhance funding for the Hispanic Heritage Month’s kick-off event was referred to the Finance and Citywide Projects (“FCWP”) Committee, at the request of Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez.

 

At their July 28, 2017 meeting, FWCP approved the request for additional funding, in the amount of $1,500.00, for activities occurring during Hispanic Heritage Month.

 

At the September 25, 2017 City Commission meeting, a discussion to allocate funding for Hispanic Affairs Committee programing, as part of the budget process for fiscal year 2017-2018 was referred to FWCP, at the request of Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez.

 

The item was deferred at the October 6th, November 8th, and December 8th, 2017 FCWP meetings.


ANALYSIS:

In a letter to the City Manager (Exhibit A), the Hispanic Affairs Committee requested enhanced funding for their recommended programming as part of the budget process for Fiscal Year 2017/2018. Their recommended programming includes a Jose Marti celebration, a mid-year outreach, and additional events during Hispanic Heritage month. Traditionally, programming for Hispanic Heritage month includes one Parks and Recreation funded event.



CONCLUSION:

Committee direction on whether to fund the Hispanic Affairs Committee’s requested programming and if so, where funding will come from.
