The City of Miami Beach is an international tourist destination known for its many attributes including its vibrant nightlife. The festivities during major event days and weekends in the City carry over into the early hours of the morning. Each year, the City host a number of major special events celebrating the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning ("LGBTQ") community, including the Winter Party Festival and the Miami Beach Pride weekend.
In order to address the special circumstances for celebration which occur on New Year's Eve, and during other major event days and weekends within the City of Miami Beach, the Mayor and City Commission codified, Section 6-3(a)(6) of the City Code, an established policy of allowing alcoholic beverage establishments with a 5:00 a.m. liquor license to continue to sell and serve alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption until 7:00 a.m. during designated major event days or weekends, subject to those conditions set forth in Section 6-3(a)(6).
The City's Major Events Plan and Special event Guidelines designate Winter Party Festival and Miami Beach Pride as "major event periods" which make these events eligible for the extension of alcoholic beverage service hours subject to the condition established in the City Code.
The extension of alcoholic beverage service as provided in Section 6-3 of the City Code shall be applied only to event held in the City on March 2 and 3, 2019 for the Winter Party Festival; and on April 6 and 7, 2019 for the Miami Beach Pride weekend.
For the past several years, the Mayor and City Commission have adopted similar resolutions to support these events.
