Please place on the May 15, 2024 agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life (“PSNQLC”) to discuss outreach and parking plans for the City’s cultural institutions for future Spring Break periods.
Spring Break is a high impact period for the entire City, and as we move towards shifting the image of the City as a cultural hub of South Florida, it is important to support our cultural institutions during this critical time. As we reflect on the parking restrictions we implemented during this year’s Spring Break, which were incredibly effective, we must address their impact on cultural institutions in our community, and work towards practical solutions to support their operations.
I would like the Committee to discuss and direct the Administration to conduct outreach to cultural institutions in the City, including but not limited to the New World Symphony, Miami New Drama, O Cinema, the Wolfsonian, FIU-MBUS, the World Erotic Art Museum, the Filmore, the Jewish Museum, and the Miami-Dade Preservation League, to devise parking plans that will accommodate scheduled events during the month of March and reduce significant disruptions during future Spring Break periods.
Similarly, there should be an assessment made of how to improve unintended impacts to businesses along 17th and 41st streets during the day in order to accommodate clients with appointments to be able to park in a reasonable manner.
