On October 26, 2022, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2022-32340 authorizing negotiations with Calvin Giordano & Associates, Inc. pursuant to Request for Qualifications No. 2022- 436- ND for Architectural Design Services for the Ocean Drive Corridor Improvement and Lummus Park Enhancement project. The contract was executed in June 2023.
The purpose of this referral is to receive an update and status on the project and progress of the contractor's work.
Project Description and Scope of Work:
The Ocean Drive Masterplan is a comprehensive initiative aimed at revitalizing Ocean Drive, one of Miami Beach’s most iconic and vibrant areas.
The scope of the project includes reconstruction of Ocean Drive from 5th to 15th streets to create the flexibility to eliminate or limit vehicular traffic through the implementation of a new streetscape, including landscape, irrigation, and lighting that integrates existing elements and the development of walkable areas with the purpose of increasing connectivity and the satisfaction of functional aspects of access; all while protecting its character and history.
Key Elements of the Project include:
· Infrastructure Improvements – Upgrading existing infrastructure to improve safety and efficiency
· Pedestrian Safety – Implementing measures to enhance the safety and experience of pedestrians
· Aesthetic Enhancements – Beautifying the area to maintain its status as a top tourist destination
Funding:
Thanks to the 2018 G.O. Bond, there is $20 million in funding of which approximately $1.5 million is in Tranche 1 and $18.5 million is in Tranche 2.
