Please place on the May 15, 2024 agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee to discuss expanding the Crime Dashboard, with Phase 2 to comprise of the overlapping of crime and arrest data, and with Phase 3 to incorporate and merge Code Compliance data therein.
The Miami Beach Police Department, in collaboration with the Information Technology Department, is in the process of launching a new dashboard that will provide statistical crime data, along with arrest data. The Crime Dashboard is being implemented in an effort to foster transparency and to empower City leaders and the public by providing a tool to monitor crime across the entire City in a more comprehensive manner. Such overlapping data may also be utilized as an effective tool to acquire a detailed understanding surrounding the type of criminal conduct taking place in the City, the area(s) of such offenses, and any potential nexus between code violations and criminal activities.
As part of this Referral, I would request that the City Administration, including the Police Department, Information Technology Department, and Code Compliance Department, be prepared at Committee to discuss the expansion of the Crime Dashboard as referred herein, in addition to providing any recommendations, issues, or concerns.
