SUBJECT:

A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO PUBLISH MONTHLY REPORTS, ON THE OFFICIAL CITY OF MIAMI BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT WEBPAGE, SETTING FORTH THE STATISTICAL DATA PERTAINING TO CRIMES REPORTED AND ARRESTS EFFECTUATED IN THE PRIOR MONTH, SORTED BY AREA OF THE CITY IN WHICH THE OFFENSE WAS COMMITTED, FOR ALL FELONY, MISDEMEANOR, AND CITY/COUNTY ORDINANCE VIOLATIONS; AND FURTHER, DIRECTING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO PUBLISH SUCH MONTHLY CRIME AND ARREST DATA REPORTS ON EACH PUBLIC SAFETY AND NEIGHBORHOOD QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE (PSNQLC) AGENDA, IN CONJUNCTION WITH PRESENTING SUCH DATA AT EACH PSNQLC MEETING.


HISTORY:

Commissioner Alex Fernandez placed a Resolution on the July 26, 2023 City Commission meeting agenda directing the City Administration to publish monthly reports on the Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD) webpage with statistical data regarding crimes reported and arrests effectuated in the prior month and sorted by area and offense.  Additionally, the Resolution called for the report to be published and presented monthly at the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee (PSNQLC) meetings.

 

The item was heard at the March 20, 2024 PSNQLC and deferred to the April 17, 2024 meeting. 

ANALYSIS

At the direction of the City Commission, the Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD) collaborated with the City's Information Technology Department to create and deploy public facing interactive daily and monthly crime dashboards in compliance with all state and federal privacy and protection rights.

CONCLUSION:
As requested at the March 20, 2024 PSNQLC meeting, the Police and Information Technology Departments will present the dashboards at the April 17, 2024 meeting.
