COMMITTEE MEMORANDUM

TO: Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee Members

FROM:
Alina T. Hudak, City Manager

DATE: March 20, 2024

SUBJECT:

DISCUSS THE MIAMI BEACH COMMISSION FOR WOMEN’S RECOMMENDATION FOR THE CITY TO FIND A PERMANENT LOCATION FOR THE YEAR-ROUND EXHIBITION OF THE WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH PLACARDS RECENTLY DISPLAYED IN THE LUMMUS PARK AREA DURING MARCH OF 2023

HISTORY:

During the April 28, 2023 Commission meeting, a discussion was referred to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee (“PSNQLC”) by Commissioner Laura Dominguez to discuss the Miami Beach Commission for Women’s recommendation for the City to find a permanent location for the year-round exhibition of the Women’s History Month placards recently displayed in the Lummus Park area during March of 2023 (Exhibit A).

ANALYSIS

Commissioner Laura Dominguez would like to discuss identifying a permanent location for the year-round exhibition of the Women’s History Month placards recently displayed in the Lummus Park area during March of 2023 and asks for the Administration to provide any recommendations for a suitable location for the display.

If the placement of these placards is approved at the Committee and Commission level, it is recommended that they be installed within Brittany Bay Park, located along Indian Creek Drive and 65th Street. The park is a great location as it is a recently renovated waterfront park. Since reopening, the park has experienced an increase in activity, including passersby.

The initial cost for each placard is $1,800-3,000. The cost to replace the design on each placard is estimated around $500. To complete this project, funding would need to be allocated. The recommended installation method is similar to that of park signs, which allows for ease of replacement as needed.

CONCLUSION:

Discussion and direction on a permanent location for the year-round exhibition of the Women’s History Month placards recently displayed in the Lummus Park area during March of 2023.
