On behalf of the sponsor of this item, Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez, please place on the January 31, 2024 agenda a referral to the Public Safety and Neighborhood Quality of Life Committee to discuss potential solutions to noise from security systems at residential properties.

I would like to discuss the problem of security systems at residential properties that loudly proclaim things like “WAIT – YOU ARE BEING WATCHED ON CAMERA!” These loud security system proclamations often startle and frighten pedestrians and may dissuade people from even using public sidewalks. This practice has, in my opinion, become a public nuisance that needs to be addressed through legislation or other action.   

I am open to recommendations City Staff and my colleagues as to the best and most effective solutions.
