| | | | | | | | ANALYSIS
|
I would like to refer a discussion item to the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee (the “Committee”) to consider funding to provide fitted uniforms (or a fund to reimburse employees for tailoring expenses) for frontline personnel such as sanitation, code enforcement, and parking enforcement staff.
Well-fitting uniforms project a sense of professionalism and make employees feel more confident when performing their duties. A professional image also conveys a sense of competency that will allow for better interactions with residents and visitors.
Fitted uniforms will also provide a safer and more comfortable work environment. Loose clothing articles can get caught in machinery and tight pants can restrict movement. Proper fit is also important for breathability and comfort. In our mostly hot and humid climate, uniforms that are not the proper fit can cause employees to overheat.
Finally, properly fitting uniforms will promote employee pride, which typically results in higher work performance.
I urge the Committee to consider allocating the necessary resources towards the procurement of fitted uniforms for our frontline staff, or, alternatively, to make funds available for the reimbursement of tailoring expenses incurred by frontline employees.
