| | SUBJECT: | REFERRAL TO THE FINANCE AND ECONOMIC RESILIENCY COMMITTEE TO IDENTIFY FUNDING FOR LIGHTING ENHANCEMENTS IN SPECIFIED AREAS OF SOUTH BEACH, AS PREVIOUSLY RECOMMENDED BY THE PUBLIC SAFETY AND NEIGHBORHOOD QUALITY OF LIFE COMMITTEE, SIMILAR TO OTHER SUCCESSFUL LIGHTING PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED IN OTHER AREAS OF THE CITY, SUCH AS 41ST STREET, 71ST STREET AND MERIDIAN AVENUE. |

Please place a discussion to the Finance and Economic Resiliency Committee ("FERC") to discuss a proposal I initiated earlier this year for lighting enhancements in specified areas of South Beach, including Ocean Drive, from 5th Street to 15th Street; Washington Avenue, from 5th Street to 17th Street; and Collins Avenue, from 5th Street to 23rd Street.
I strongly believe that lighting enhancements serve to improve public safety, create more visibility for pedestrians and drivers, and elevate aesthetics for the benefit of businesses and residents.
The prior Committee memorandum, and the detailed analysis and cost estimates prepared by the Public Works Department, are attached hereto. As part of this referral, I request that the Administration be prepared to update the cost estimates, as necessary.
