| I would like the City Commission to refer a discussion to the Land Use and Sustainability Committee ("LUSC") to study how the City can better recruit qualified architects and landscape architects to serve on the City's land use boards (Board of Adjustment, Design Review Board, Historic Preservation Board, and Planning Board).
Under the City Code, members of City boards and committees (including members of the land use boards) are prohibited from appearing before the City as lobbyists on behalf of individual clients. Based on my discussions with staff, this has discouraged otherwise qualified architects and landscape architects from seeking appointment to the City's land use boards, as any such appointment would require the applicant to forego accepting work from clients located in Miami Beach.
Notwithstanding the above, I would like the LUSC to discuss creative approaches the City can take to recruit qualified architects and landscape architects to serve on our boards. |
